Apple Watch - How to tell if Series 1?

I am looking to buy a 2nd hand Apple Watch. I’m really unsure how to tell from the watch if it’s a series 1?

I’ve looked and it seems it should say series 1 on back but on eBay people are selling watches described as series 1 but photos do not show series 1 on the back or box.

Can anyone please clarify?

From what I understand, the series 1 says series 1, the series 2 says series 2 but if it doesn't show any series then it's an original, before they invented the name 'series' for them. Some people are calling the original a series 1 but they're not.

Thanks, that seems to be the case. Must be quite a few people receiving first gen watches described as Series 1.
