Apple Watch upgrade “sweet spot”.

My sister is looking to upgrade her Apple Watch series 3. What is the sweet spot nowadays for value for money against features?

For example the series IIRC incorporated GPS and Water resistance. Is there a step up in capability or battery life with a certain generation?

Really appreciate the response. Is there a feature that makes the difference for you or is it just that they're available for cheaper but still have a lot of the features of the later models?
