So I decided to ditch my massive logitech s530 mac keyboard and go after a Apple Wireless Keyboard...

Having missed out on a few on the bay' I decided to **** it and get a knock off / clone. Priced @ £14.99

It's arrived, and while not having that high quality feel its pretty much spot on, has the same layout and shortcut keys.

Now last night Apple Update popped open and offered me a firmware update for their "Apple Wireless Keyboard" for the 2007 model, fixing keyboard battery issues and missing key strokes (which incidentally happen from time to time).

Now, why would it do this if the keyboard is not official and a copy? I'm actually intrigued to do the update but worried it'll naff the keyboard up.

Thoughts / Suggestions?

I think some of it was also down to key mapping.

I seem to remember when I got a replacement last year, some of the media keys and such weren't even working till I installed the firmware update.

They all work for me, I was referring to the keyboard not registering a kew press when I begin a to type after leaving it for a minute, power saving mode perhaps, but the point is this isnt an official product.

The only reason I can think off is its a refurb internals and/or a direct copy with the same identifiers, it would make sense then if Apple Update detected this as a genuine product...

Part of me wants to update it just cos' I'm too damn curious!

The other part doesn't want a bricked keyboard and having to spend another £15. :p
