Rumour has it that Apple are developing a new Tablet PC so expect that overpriced item to possibly show up in the future...

Apple, a leading maker of various digital gadgets, may be working on its own tablet personal computer, according to a news-story that cites current manufacturer of Apple’s MacBook and MacBook Pro products. The new type of mobile computer, if the information is correct, will allow Apple to target niche market segments with its products, however, it is unlikely that the product will be among best-sellers.

Aye, expand the iPhone screen a few inches or so, stick proper OS X on and you're on to a winner tbh.

maybe if you add in a stylus similar to that from wacom, artists would flock to it if the size is right (i'd say 11x6" - a5 wide size)

Personally i would be very interest to see this Apple tablet. I presently use a tablet PC. i really enjoy it. OS is XP Pro.

True. I've got an HP TC1100 which (despite only having 512Mb ram and a graphics card that Vista says isn't good enough for Solitare) is really good. It even runs Ubuntu fairly well (pen works, screen rotate is manual at the moment and wi-fi is always on).

I don't know why they didn't catch on more, to be honest. Very useful gizmo, and smaller than most other laptops out there.

How cool would it be to be writing notes e.t.c. in lectures on an Apple Tablet

If that comes out, I'll be so so so tempted to buying it*
*subject to my finance and how appealing the actual product will be... :p

Snip How cool would it be to be writing notes e.t.c. in lectures on an Apple Tablet

That is exactly what i used my tablet for to take notes in lectures. found it so useful. Organization of lecture notes was a blessing. Especially as i all ways used paper before, loosing notes ect. Tablet was a god send, especially for revision, exam preparation.

But what about freestyle/writing? I don't want to "touch" my notes in... that'll be pants if it's like the iPod Touch kinda input (but I doubt, as the iPod is designed for music with light net browsing and entertainment, not word processing...)

Have you tried poking your touch with a pen? It doesn't work. :p

They'd basically need to redesign the screen rather than just scale up an existing one, of course they could just make a finger pen. ;)

Then at least make it workable with my fingers writing in my notes, now that would seriously confuse non-mac/computer techie people... :p A stylus for the wind~ :)
