I've had a refurb MBP for a good couple of weeks now and love the thing to death. I'm already contemplating getting an iMac in future over upgrading my main PC rig to an i7 machine thanks to OSX being a breath of fresh air.

I'm in a 50/50 split over what to do with AppleCare though. Is it worth the £200 for my machine? I generally look after my netbooks/laptops pretty well and this macbook is strictly for home/iphone development only so it'll never leave my house.

How reliable are unibody macbooks nowadays? Not sure what to do.

Look on the bay, its a lot cheaper. Im sure another forum user has done the same thing and can point you in the direction of a reputable seller.

Hummmm, me and a mate both have apple care as part of the HE deal and for his 07 macbook pro it was a god send (he had a £600 repare bill done for free after the nvidia card died, the cd rom died, sound card problem and something else)

Generally i say if its discounted its really worth it! Even if its not it probably is....

I thought exactly the same thing after first getting a Mac (iBook) and when the Core Duo iMacs came out I ran out and bought one, and I kinda regretted it after a while. Don't get me wrong, it's a great machine and I enjoyed it for about 12 months, but after that I found myself wanting more horsepower from a desktop machine (and there was no way I was paying for a Mac Pro.)

All I'm saying is consider your usage for a desktop and don't do what I did and convince yourself that you don't need something high end and expandable when you really do. I really missed not having the option to upgrade the hardware even though I knew full well this was the case when I bought it.

I'm sure many will disagree, but I've settled on a powerful Windows desktop and a MacBook Pro which gives me the best of both worlds. :)

Just had a quick look myself, thats a pretty big saving buying it from the alternative place. I assume it is fine buying it from there, right?

Yes absolutely - I saved a bundle when I bought it from eBay for my Mac Pro, I think it cost me about £60 which was well spent as I had the PSU and Airport card changed a while ago.

My AppleCare was bought on eBay and I've taken advantage of it a couple of times, all good.

Cool ... well I just ordered Applecare for my Macbook since its approaching a year in December. Hopefully I'll make the most of it when I need it.

Cheers for the advice guys. One question though, is buying AppleCare from the bay a reliable move? I mean can it be used without any issues? There's got to be a catch...

You would think there is a catch but it hasn't been the case for me. Just make sure you buy from someone who is reliable and has had a recent history of selling the thing you want. :)
