AppleCare Question Please

Hi All,

I'm new to Apple products. Will probably get an Iphone 5 when they come out, but anyway. On 8th June I bought my dad an Ipad (Wi-Fi + 3G)

He's a lorry driver so uses it while he's away and also watches Sky Go on it etc.

I want to get some protection on it in case it gets damaged or dropped (highly possible living in a lorry week in week out).

My question is, Do I buy the AppleCare now, or can I wait until the limited one year warranty runs out, and then buy the two years worth of applecare?

Also, Its £70 odd from Apple but some stores seem to sell it slightly cheaper. Is it best to buy direct from Apple or elsewhere?

And what do you get with Applecare?

Many Thanks
James

Applecare is only 2 years from date of purchase on iPads - exactly the same as what you get for free under EU Consumer law.

As applecare doesn't even cover accidental damage you are basically giving them £70 for another years worth of cover which you get for free anyway by living in the EU.

Edit: I think it's even longer for us in the UK with no specific time limit

AppleCare won't offer protection against accidental damage, just standard warranty claims.
It's worth it as they will just swap you one there and then no hassle, but obviously if you want accidental damage it may be cheaper elsewhere.
