Simple Question.. Is it worth it?

I've got a new 14"MBP and have 25 days left to decide if I want extended apple care or not.. I'm in 2 minds.. usually I never take extended warranties, but for an expensive Macbook like the M1 Pro, it might be worth it..

Just curious on others thoughts.

I've always taken it on Apple computer hardware.

Used it on my original Mac Pro for a dead PSU. Used it on my 2012 iMacs to replace the optical drives, used it on my 2017 iMac to replace a noisy fan. Used it on my very old Mac mini when it just *ahem* died after a near lightning strike. Used it on my MacBook to get a new screen after a dead pixel developed.

The point I was making was how much had you paid in Applecare against the cost of a repair? Apple is being rather cagey on the yearly cost of AppleCare.

Definitely go for it.

I've used it on both Mac's I've owned

- 2012 retina had a new logicboard and screen
- 2019 MBP Touch bar has had basically every component in it replaced under applecare (new screen, new logicboard, new keyboard and top cover) - I think the only thing remaining is the IO ports and the bottom case lid....

Just taken delivery of a 2021 16 M1 Max and have taken it out on that. It came in at under 10% of the purchase price for complete peace of mind for 3 years

Erm, I don't think there's any cageyness in it - Whenever I've bought AppleCare, it's a one off cost that increases the coverage from one to three years. I think I paid around £200 to buy it for the Mac Pro (remember this was over ten years ago) and if I'd had to buy the PSU, it was somewhat more than that.

I bought an M1 Air last month and within two weeks the dog knocked it off the table and it’s now got quite an impact mark where a corner landed on a tiled floor. Was gutted.
However, I purchased AppleCare+ within the timeframe and I’ll get it repaired when I get chance. It’s deffo worth it, IMO

Yea go for it if the cost is not an issue. Extended warranty and insurance against accidents. One dropped laptop and you'll be thankful for the AppleCare+.

My brother took it out on his M1 Air, 4 weeks later one of his staff spilled coffee on it.

Definitely go for it.

Not hard to see why Apple is a $2 Trillion company!

Seriously did they see you coming? You have a supposed ultra-premium laptop that required all that repair work over a 2ish year period yet you thought Yep must go back and buy another one??
You actively paid for AppleCare rather than use your Statutory Consumer Rights to repair the shoddy lemon Apple sold you?
The mind boggles!

By the way John Lewis offer a 2 year warranty as standard

Being a freelance creative in the events industry who's entire career and livelihood relies on and is contained on my laptop, along with tools that aren't available/don't work as well on a non mac - its worth it.

The ease and accessibility of the applecare process means I can be anywhere in the world, on site, walk into a store and pickup a loan machine whilst I wait for any issue in mine to be ironed out. To me that is worth the 7.5% addition to the price tag.

John Lewis warranty - great. 2 years and doesn't offer the same turn around.

Just because you think it's not good value to you, doesn't mean it's not to someone else.

It also now covers 2 claims of accidental damage a year, which means I don't need to insure it against that, which makes it even better value.

Someone needs to read into how consumer rights works (spoiler: it’s not a 6 year warranty) as well as JL’s terms and conditions for the second year of coverage

but is it worth it on a Mac mini? If you have hardware failures does it cover you for that as well? Do you still have to pay the 'excess' for hardware failures in say year 3?

It is saying £34.99 per year or £99 for me. Is 3 years the max or can you keep paying that £34.99?

Hardware failures are warranty claims. The excess only applies to accidents.
