I took the 5 to the 1/4 mile track today to see how I'd get on. I'm quite happy with the results, although I think I could get a slightly better time with an improved launch. I'm only running 195 tyres at the moment and sometimes I was having problems launching it off the line.

So the best time was a 12.964s @ 110.6 mph which as far as I was aware is quicker than:

Audi RS4 MK2 (4.2 V8)
Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster
Bentley Continental GT Coupe
BMW M3 Coupe E46
BMW M5 (E39)
BMW Z4M
Honda NSX
Lotus Exige S (S2)
Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R
Porsche 911 (996) Turbo 4 Cabrio
Porsche 911 (996) Carrera 4S (3.6)
Subaru Impreza WRX Sti RB320
Subaru Impreza WRX Type 25

The list goes on. Frankly I feel a it of a tit posting this up, and its not something I would normally do. But I feel with all the people calling BS on the 'stories' where the guy in exotica isn't trying need to realise i'm not a liar.

Anyway. Hopefully with more work on the launch I'll be back in a couple of months or so to try for closer to mid 12's.

How do you like them apples???

I've not had it on the rolling road yet so I don't have a solid figure, but based on similar cars I'd guess its around 250bhp at the flywheel so around 260 bhp per tonne.

Fabricate a few things yourself and it will be the £1200-1500 area.

Haha, I wish

I reckon all in I've not spent any more than £3k on the turbo kit and assosciated components. Although I got lucky and got the $3500 turbo kit for £900 2nd hand.

I'd really like to be able to fabricate things like that, but there's also a lot to be said for tried and tested to be reliable manifolds.

I had a couple of teething problems with the MS but nothing that would stop me recommending one.

The support available on miataturbo is a god send and any problem I've came across they've been able to help me out with. Just don't ask too many stupid questions there. They are notoriously snippy with people who don't search etc.

I bought an Innovate wideband LC1 and hooked it up to the MS and tuned it myself. It's pretty simple once you get your head around everything.

Are you thinking about going turbo? I ran the MS for about a couple of months when I was normally aspirated and it helped me learn before slapping in bigger injectors etc.

I noticed it was immediately quicker when I went to MS, even with the base map. I think the MAF delete helped a lot. I tried to find injectors from other cars but when I thought about the hassle of sending them off to get flow tested etc I decided to go with RC Engineering 550's instead. It should at least give me a bit of headroom for when I get the GT28RS. Hopefully I won't need to replace them if I'm at ~300hp.

I'm with Keith Michaels insurance broker and found them very competitive. I was banned on an SP30 (130 mph - the less said about that the better) and they were still able to provide cover for £600. I've declared everything as well which is good for peace of mind.

Yup it feels pretty quick although I'm used to it now. Bigger turbo, water injection and R888's and I'm going to shoot for low 12s and dare I say it - late 11's.

I've never really thought seriously about nitrous. To me it seems like cheating a bit. I suppose a 25-50hp shot might give a nice boost. With so many other things to do first I'll leave it just now.

I've got a spare engine to build up. There are guys running 500whp on built miata engines in the states, but obviously there is big money involed and not on my shoestring budget!

Yup I think it should be around 250bhp. I know its just a theoretical calculator, but Letstorquebhp thinks:

Quarter Mile (Secs) : 12.86
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 107.45

Based on 250bhp, 980kg and RWD. Which seems roughly accurate going by the figures I put in. I think I could work on the launch a little and see that time.

I know a couple of guys both with blob-eye Spec C imprezas at around 370bhp. And they both run mid to late 12's. It sounds like the guy with the 450bhp one either can't drive or his figures are a bit optimistic?

Must have been very nice launches indeed. Santa pod looks so beautiful. The tarmac looks so sticky compared to the bumpy crail airfield!

Swings and roundabouts I guess then? Do you think the pod might see a faster time but a lower top speed?

I started an aero thread on here a while back. It didn't go well!

I was planning on going GT28RS on standard internals for about 300hp. While I'm running like that I'll rebuild my spare engine, and if it decides to go pop I'll put the built engine in and go for ~350hp.

It feels great. Most people are genuinely surprised at how quick it is. Sometimes it gets a bit tiring getting past peoples preconceptions about the car!
