In the process of trying to get a refund for Panda Antivirus Pro, not happy with it at all.

It had an Application Blocker which I did rather like however.

Essentially every time a new program launches for the first time, it asks whether I want to permit or block it. This was as close to the bones as you can go, so aside from critical Windows services I had quite granular control over what applications were allowed to run.

I could also open a handy UI, unblock the App to use it for a limited time, then block it again (an allow temporarily feature would have been nice).

Is there a standalone application, or perhaps an Antivirus, that comes with a feature like this? (at the moment I'm probably going to go BitDefender)

we had discussed w10 pro application whitelisting here

Did they not give a trial for Panda ? what was the problem ?

Thanks for that mate, I'll take a look.

There was a deal on for Panda Pro at the time, so I went for it. Most annoying thing was I missed a really good bit defender deal in the process.

I didn't like the UI, the tack on extras that were annoying, and the baked in extra bits that were locked but could be accessed for extra money when I'd already paid for a year.

The deal breaker was it came with a pretty basic Firewall that when disabled wouldn't relinquish control back to the windows firewall API (which my program of choice, GlassWire, uses), tech support would offer no answers except copy paste re-install guides, and eventually stopped answering.

Hopefully they don't make the refund painful!

Checked the linked thread out. Not quite what I'm after.

Looking for something that will provide an alert when a new program starts for the first time, and provide me with a dialogue box and options.

This actually proved useful the other day, as I've removed windows store completely from my pc and during an update it had reinstalled and was trying to run in the background!

So it transpires most of these programs are aimed at the enterprise market. Scouted through a few by the most promising is EXERadar Pro, by a company called NoVirusThanks. 30 day trial is available but they're about to release a new version so will wait.

Will try to remember to post an update on how this goes, not been a busy thread so it's more for posterity than anything else.

Thanks for the contribution jPaul.
