Application that can clean up music file names?

MusicBrainz Picard

Fantastic software, after a few minutes of setting it up, it'll automatically rename, re-tag, and re-organize any music files you chuck at it.

I haven't used better :)

i've not tried the above

mine were organised at least into folders, but i used tag & rename to retag and restructure them, i used to do them manually before (nothing existed to do them :o )

-edit, that above looks really nice, will give it a go tonight maybe

i've got a few gig that I need to sift through anyway

backup copies first me thinks :)

Agree 100%, also make sure it has the album art plugin too get that sorted as well :). Its never failed me at i've used it over 54Gb of music now. 30Gb in one lump.

can you force it to name the jpg's folder.jpg (and set it to hide them?)

i made a small bat file for hiding folder.jpg files anyway, but wondering :)

oo will give it a go - been using Zortram mp3 studio up till now but it's not got any automation (as far as I can tell). If Picard doesn't work for you - give Zortram a bash.

Yeah you can change the default name to folder.jpg in the options somewhere, no you can't hide them. Make sure you have the album art plugin installed though, so the art is inserted into the tag as well, much nicer solution. :)

I can't believe you haven't used that yet bledd, i beat on about that, MediaMonkey and Opera all the time :p :D :o?

Just trying it out now - I recently got a load of music, but it's all showing up as 001 - Led Zepplin - Stairway to Heaven (for example). Is there any way I can get it to automate removing the 001 from the start?

Its not a batch tag editor per se, it has some editing capabilities, but its meant to do it all itself, it will recheck the title artist album then re write tags and filenames, in whatever order you define, so it could go through and fix them, and its what i'd because time after time it is the most reliable tagger out there. There are just a few new albums that aren't in the database quick enough that throw it off, if thats the case, i use MediaMonkeys amazon tagger, which is also very powerful :)
