For anyone who's used two screen, you know how useful it is. If you have a single widescreen monitor, is there a (free) tool in effect to split the desktop into two, such that you can just drop applications left or right into those two 'virtual monitors'?

I know you can sort of do it more manually, but I really just want an approach just as if your monitor had been cut in half so it behaves like two independent screens?

Never heard of such a tool, then again I have never had cause to go looking!

However, if on the off-chance you run Windows 7, you can use the Win Key + Left/Right keys to effectively glue a window to one half the of the screen. I know it isn't quite what you are after, but is handy nonetheless.

Windows XP in this case :)

That doesn't sound too bad! It's a single key press :) But I still recon just splitting a screen into two seperate monnitors is the ideal approach... Even with a pretend line down the middle!

Why do you need to do this anyway? If you are splitting your screen in half it doesn't give you much room - even on a widescreen monitor.
