I was just about to shut down for bed when I figured I'd fire up Pidgin quickly to see who was online. Looked on my programs list and I can't find it there at all, along with some of my other apps (e.g. adobe apps). All I've done today is install PowerDVD. My virus guard is still up and quite happily scanning away so I can't see what's happened.

So basically my start menu looks like this at the moment:

There are lots of things missing from the top of the list!

Now this isn't the end of the world as I've double checked that all the apps are still installed, and as far as I'm aware my virus guard is still doing it's job (although I'll scan tonight just to be on the safe side), but does any one have any idea what could have done this?

I've just run a quick undelete app to see what disappeared today and I can't see anything at all.

This is really weird and bugging me like mad so if any one can shed any light I'd really appreciate it. The only thing I've done today is install PowerDVD ( and unisntall and reinstall it a couple of times) and done the hddvd compatibility hack.

Thanks in advance.

edit:

I can't do a system restore as my other half has a licence college type application she's just installed and it's a pain in the arse to reinstall.
