Applying a laptop skin

The laptop lid is tapered to the edges so I cannot simply cut it to size whilst it laid on top, otherwise the corners are going to crease when smoothed down, is the only way to do this to cut V shapes at the corners so it folds down smoothly?

I applied a vinyl skin to my Aspire one. The skin stretched to fit the corners without wrinkles.
