Ive just recieved my new pc and have the following question:

can you tell me if i should remove the heatspreader and place artic siver across the 2 cores of my c2quad?

i dont have any cleaning solution so didnt know whether i should or not

thanx

Jody

I wouldn't advise removing the integrated heat spreader on the CPU, you will more than likely damage the CPU itself.

As for cleaning, a specific cleaner would be your best bet. I personally use carburetter and injector cleaner as I have some for my bike in the garage.

This is an extract from the artic siler website guide:

The next photo is a quad core processor with the heatspreader removed. You can see when properly applied how the line of thermal compound crosses the quad core chip of the heatspreader horizontally. After you apply the line of Arctic Silver 5 do NOT spread the line out yourself. When you place the heatsink on top of the heatspreader of the CPU the line of Arctic Silver 5 will spread out just like an oval pancake. This is done this way to insure proper coverage of the heatspreader and a good minimum bond line between the two surfaces.

the photo shows a quadcore heatspreader bieng removed, this is whats confusing

also what can i clean the cpu with before applying AS5?

Thanx

Hello Jody, if your Q6600 is brand new, their shouldn't be any reason you need to clean it. The paste is already pre-applied on the Intel stock CPU cooler. :)
