This may be a stupid question but is MX-2 applied to a quad core in the same way that AS5 is with the horizontal line across the chip?

Will be seating a New true ultima 90

Fitted heatsink but ended up with load temps hitting 68 at point and mainly between 63 and 65. I think I probably should be getting better temps than that. Even in a case which doesn't have the best air flow. Will have to reseat tomorrow :(

I tightened up the heatsink (I didn't tighten all the way first time and also I think my Noctua may have been the wrong way round I'm ashamed to say :)

My temps after those changes are at 60 and late 50s. Never going above 60 yet. Acceptable as I'm in a bit of a stuffy room and have 1 intake fan and 2 exaust but still probably room for improvement. (Idle 39 39 33 38)

What temps should I really be getting/aiming for in an a17 with this true?

On stock volts still. A couple of queries.

I have plugged the 3 pin fan into what is a 4 pin pwm header for cpu fan.. It is running but hard to tell if the speed changes.

Let prime for 8 hours and 44 idle, 69 load.

I'm wondering if the load temps are high because of the top mounted psu blowing hot air down onto the heatsink.

But if I use OCCT it fails everytime as it goes just over 70. I may have put on too much paste so I will reseat tonight

Sorry when I say fails, I mean the test says too hot and stops, not that my PC stalls or freezes. Under Prime I get to 70 degree.

I have set volts to 1.35 not auto. The header is on the mobo, I will use everest to check fan speed this evening.

I think the problem may be airflow. Although I am pulling a lot out via the top and back the airflow in is poor. The intake is at the bottom and being blocked by the hard drives so no air is really entering the case except for the small amount the cpu fan is trying to get in through the meshed front of the case.

I would like a 343 fan module but lian li have changed uk distributers and no where including overclockers have these fan modules which also fit the a17.

I have a bad feeling the psu blowing down might be upsetting the temps as it blows near enough directly onto the HSF.

Slightly confused as to what to do next to improve temps. I can post some pics later
 
I'm thinking... to improve airflow of ordering a couple of stronger 120mm and connecting them up to my fan controller.

I don't mind noise in the day but I need something I can turn down at night so I can sleep. I have a fan controller.

Any recommendations? Sharkoon 2000 perhaps?

Reseated heatsink with mx-2 spread evenly over the heatsink as opposed to putting it on the ship.

Also made sure room was at normal cool temperature and not stuffy. Idle temps 37 37 32 36

Load temps 62 62 58 56

Don't think I should expect much more when there isn't a great inflow of air hitting the heatsink

Will give a nice prime95 8 hour blast tonight and see how goes

Lol. I reapplied the thermal paste with as little as I could using Huddy's clingfilm advice I saw in another thread. Temps won't pass 59/60 degrees. Hopefully even better once I get the module to set up an intake fan directly infront of the true. :)
