Reading a few websites who say using this method of applying TIM on HDT coolers gets better results, second from bottom pic on the link.

I'm getting a fenrir HDT cooler for my new build and im wondering which method should I use to apply my TIM. The one in the link or the usual pea/line method on the cpu. will be using MX-2.

The line on each mettle bit is usaly the best since it gets the best spread.
But it also depends on the CPU, if its quad, dual or single.
If its a non bleeding paste, don't be so over safe and apply a bit extra for a better spread.

Probably not the best of ideas, but a line on each silver bit, and a pea on each copper?
Just off the top of my head for a bit of fun.
