Anybody got a good guide they could link me to? i bought a noctua for my e6600 and need some information how to apply the thermal material (sorry for such noob question ive never installed custom cooler)

Thanks!

Take a look here and here for 2 different ways of doing it.
The first way is what arcticsilver recommends if your using Arctic Silver 5 and the second link apply's to most other thermal pastes including the ones you get with the heat sinks.
From what I have found from doing it there's not much performance difference between the 2 main ways if any at all.
Just go ahead and take your time over it whichever way you choose to do it, not to little thermal paste but not to much either. A nice thin layer is what you want :)

Biggest mistake ive ever see, is when people lather it on thinking 'more is better'

Ive found the thinnest but ultimately even layer of AS5 is the best

Personally i put a tiny blob in the middle of the CPU then use some thing rigid and straight to smooth it out, the best things are a razor blade, or if thats not to hand, rip the sliding metal cover off the top of an old floppy disk bend it out and use the edge of that.

Even out the compound and keep adding tiny amounts wherever required, until you have a nice even and flat film.

Then plonk the cooler on :)
