Got my appraisal today and want to make sure it turns out really well. Previous ones I've had normally ends up the manager / director talking for ages, me saying 3 words and that's about it.

Is it my opportunity to say what things I've done well the past year ?

Is it the right time to bring up my salary aswell ?

Oh and in addition, i've started ( from tomorrow ) doing my MCSA which the company is paying for. They are now asking me to sign something saying i can't leave for at least a year after my exams  anything i should say before I sign this ??

Thanks !!

Yes.

Yes.

You can enquire about it more, don't sign anything unless you have read it and thought it through.

Do you have a separate salary review date?

If so, I wouldn't say that your appraisal is the right time/place to discuss it.

August is when we get our salary 'rise' but wouldn't call it a review.

Last time manager basically said well done... here you go and that's it.

just about how well u've done etc etc, your career aspirations like you said, nothing to worry about really, mine usually takes 5 mins.

Just talk about what you have done well so far, what hasn't gone as well as you had planned or liked. Also talk about what your next steps are in terms of training and job development. This is also the right time to bring up salary etc.

Edit; Mine is quite relaxed and informal, and doesn't really cover much that I havent already discussed with my boss from day to day anyway, but then I do have a good relationship with my boss. But its usefull to get some of the things down on paper and to raise them a bit more formally.

ours take 2 hours minimum. Usually company objectives first, with projected profits. Then departmental objectives and finnally personal objectives.

After this move on to areas improved, areas that need improving and what training is required to achive this.

then furthur thoughts, career aspirations etc
