somewhere out there!
Hi
As title suggests, i just wondered if people were aware of apps geared towards those with severe visual impairments and/or deaf people.

The one we use a lot is google transcribe.

Just wanting to see if there were lists/info out there or equally if we can use this thread to highlight any that could be of use?

Thank you.

I thought it was me who started this thread a while ago and someone has bumped it!

I use the Magnifier widget, icon looks like in the screenshot below. It's used for close-up and also as a monocular as I struggle to read train station display boards and headings that hang over supermarket aisles. I did have a real monocular until recently but I broke it. Apart from that, I use the largest font size available system-wide and set screen zoom to max. This does bugger up the Wetherspoon app though as some of the UI isn't visible on max zoom, so I have to turn the zoom down every time I want to make an order. Poor show really as none of the other apps are affected.

I would be interested to hear from other visually and hearing impaired too.

Sight in 1 eye only, with current lens prescription -28.5 and latest field test report showing that I'm in the bottom 0.5% of the population for eyesight.

Latest audiogram reported back as severely deaf in both ears.

For my mother who has poor eyesight due to old age I've set up Select to Speak which is part of Google's Android Accessibility Suite to read out messages to her. Very handy since her friends usually sends her large walls of text which is hard to see on a smaller screen even when zoomed in.

She's deaf in one ear too but I got her a bone conduction headphone couple of years which she uses often with the phone.
