Guys,

I have a 6x2x2 tank which will be going in my new home. Now the downstairs floor is timber floating...... This will be approx. 2-3tonne.

Whats peoples thoughts on support?

People are telling me all sorts concrete slab, shuttering, blocks, timber etc etc

Now I was wondering would concrete lintels under each joist dug down in a footing, with blocks on top building up under every joist provide enough support?

Some people seem to over egg this but then some dont do anything for a 8 foot tank apart from some extra timber.....

Thanks guys!

If you want an official answer then consult a structural engineer to give the ok for it, but as long as you're spreading the weight across multiple joists then it should take the weight without problem. If it was me I'd think about supporting the joists where the front of the stand would be with blocks, and also make sure the bottom of the stand/cabinet is a single board to spread the load over the floorboards and joists rather than one standing on feet.

There's a nice discussion about the same sort of thing here.

I had the same thing with the same build up with a fish tank, every someone walked over the floor in front it would rock and roll

I removed the floor boards and use some tanalised 3x2, laid some DPC on the floor put the timber down to the blinding, few screws sideways then cut the top off, works for me.

I put loads in scattered around

We did this and to be honest with you I went for concrete blocks in the same fashion as macca's picture (and more).

I have a 4x3x2 and it is a serious weight of water to be sat on something unsupported. The trouble is more that the weight is spread over certain points where the feet are which can be more of a problem, you may want to see about trying to spread the weight throughout the cabinet base, especially where your supported joists will be.

Eventually we removed the blocks and filled the whole hallway void with concrete as I just wanted to be extra certain the tank was going nowhere (plus we wanted to tile the ground floor).

Think im going to go for that fashion but dig down 1200 x 140mm lintels and build off them up to the rafters, meeting a bricky mate up there later who might come up with something

Thanks

Where do you get 2-3 tonne from? I make that 680kg.

I'd cut the beams around the tank and support them with beams at 90deg, like ŷou would for a loft hatch. Then in the isolated space, build a frame support for the tank, this will isolate the room vibration from your tank.
If more than one beam needs cutting then main floor may need additional support.
