Today i got a BT Wireless Hub thing and it absolutely refuses to connect to the computer downstairs. I have tried to connect via:
Onboard LAN, Linksys Wireless G card and a ZyXEL G-202 wireless stick.

Which each on all i get is Aquiring Network Address .... and that is as far as i can get.
I managed to connect my laptop to it instantly, first via wireless then wired.

The only thing i did different was to install the BT software on the computer downstairs, then quickly uninstalled it again after i realised what a load of No swearing! it was (as always).

What could be the cause of this, surely it can be the pc - its 1.8mhz, 1gb ram geforce3 ... i admit the mobo is a bit No swearing! but it runs nicely enough

Cheers

Check in TCP/IP properties your PC is set to obtain an IP address automatically (DHCP) for the network adapter you are using. If it isn't then your will not be able to connect. You have proved it is working with your laptop so the PC seems to have the issue. You may wish to try turning off any AV and Firewall software on the PC as it could be blocking you. Only do this if your router has a built in Firewall.

Checked all that.

If i setup a static ip i can connect to the router, but not to the internet

mmm just logged into the router.... it says there are 3 connections currently connected to it. Gonna restart the router

I had to do a wierd pairing procedure as it it was a bluetooth connection (or there was mac filtering going on) on one laptop at my parents to get it to work for some reason. Can't remember anything else about how, why and where though unfortunately.

If that happens again, try typing in the DNS(probably find the server IPs somewhere in your router's info) and Gateway details (your router's IP addy), and you should be able to get internet with a manual IP :)

XP...

I managed to get it to connect to the router by disabling DHCP in the router, but i couldn't browse :( But figure this one out, BitComet worked fine (same on my laptop)

Then something happened and could no longer connect to the router and had reset it.

Im off to read the router manual, if there is one :o

So ..... after reinstalling and updating and gaaaaaaaaagh xp, i ran Tuneup Utilities adviser wotsit on the internet thingy..... couldn't connect, would you believe it, after all that it was bloody Tuneup Utils that buggered up the connection  Not touching that setting again.

Good news is that there is now a fully updated copy of xp ready in case the current one buggers up

You've been here long enough to know that swearing isn't tolerated.
