ARC/CEC Issues

Hi all,

I have a LG OLED TV leveraging ARC into my AV/Receiver (Yamaha RXV383) which also has my Sky Q plugged in. The Sky Remote is configured to send commands to my TV. I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but I experience some odd behaviour - hoping someone can clarify.

1. I have to turn off my devices in a specific order - notably the Sky Q Box first, then the TV in quick succession. If I don't, then the Sky Q box will turn back on my TV.

2. I have to turn on my devices in a specific order.

Currently if I turn on my Sky Q box, it will wake up the receiver, then the TV. If I do it another way, then when I try and adjust the volume using my Sky remote it won't work, bringing up a grey circle with a line through it on my TV. The only way I can seem to rectify this is to completely power down everything and bring it back up.

Is this normal? Should I be doing something different?

Thanks,

David

CEC has always been a wildwest of standards adoption, different manufacturers adopt different bits in different ways. What you are describing is illustratory of mine and many peoples experiences when trying to link across manufacturing brands and in that sense really not very unusual at all.

A few years ago I gave up trying and went down the Harmony remote and hub route and returned to using an optical between TV and amp for the rare occasions I need sound going from TV to amp.

In short, CEC is unreliable.
