Ive got a hdmi cable plugged into HDMI 4(which sais ARC)
and this is plugged into my yamaha 477 amp.

I have turned Anynet+ on the television
and ive turned hdmi control + arc on the amp on but when watching netflix or freeview I dont get sound through the amp.

Also "av reciever" is greyed out when i go to tv settings > output.

Puzzled. Spent a good few hours resetting things and updating and trying settings/cables yesterday to no avail. any clues?

thanks

I think I remember reading about Samsung/Yamaha ARC handshake problems, in the past.

Quote from AVForum:
apparently Yamaha ARC and Samsung TVs aren't exactly compatible. A possibility is to use an optical digital audio cable to the Yamaha (from the TV). I've spent several hrs. funging with the Samsung and the RX-V577 receiver. The "Input" selector for the receiver does not seem to list ARC anywhere, or anywhere to indicate that the audio input should be coming over the "HDMI Output" HDMI jack. Just Av1-6 and HDMI 1-6, none of which are the ARC channel. WTF, over? Still some possibilities left, I suppose, but tired of looking at menus for now.....

Found the issue

Was the cable. Even though I bought one that supposedly supports 1.4a/2.0 arc Ethernet etc. used a bog standard one and that worked lol

So now I need to order a new hdmi to push through the wall

Even the any net on the Samsung works so i can use the Samsung remote

I had problems with Yamaha 675 and Samsung 8500 playing nicely over ARC.

Gave up in the end and change to Onkyo 828. No problems since.
