New av receiver is wired up and ready to go, though no accessories (remote, setup mic etc) as waiting on delivery.
Speaker setup is 2 fronts and a centre.

Have hdmi connection between TV (Samsung h6400) and AVR (denon x2000) out (both are labelled as ARC enabled) yet when I check the speakers out option on my TV, I see the following with 'Receiver' greyed out.

Have tried reversing the hdmi cable, unplugging and replugging, but no joy. Is there anything I'm missing? Do I need to enable ARC somehow? Shouldn't it just work out of the box?

Secondly (and remember I've done no mic setup), when using sky, when I set hdmi sound output to stereo I get good stereo from the receiver, but when I select dolby d I just get sound from my centre. This could just be a setup thing, or does anyone else have similar issues with sky?

You might have to enable ARC on the TV. Also, check the receiver manual to see if you need to select a specific input on the amp to engage the ARC feature.

Your Stereo/DD issue with Sky does sound like a settings problem. You don't need the mic to do a full set . Having the remote would make things easier, but you should still be able to access the menus using the front panel buttons.
