Hi Guys,

After some assistance, as Ive been playing SF Alpha on my PS3 and getting some palm pain in my left hand after only 15mins of play. I dont know if its because of the pad or just age, but with the imminent release of SSFIITHDR, SF4 and Tekken 6 next year I really want to play these games without bother or pain...

So it seems that an arcade stick might be in order - I presume they are more accurate than any console d-pad and not as cramped as the DS3 so shouldnt cause the pain.

So whats the best arcade sticks out there for the PS3 and how much are they? Any chance theyll work on a PC too :p

There is the Hori fighting stick 3, which I'm desperate to get hold of, they're about £25 if you shop around online.
I saw a new one the other day too, a 'Subsonic' PS3 Arcade stick, £25 too, no idea of the quality though.
If you can source a Hori, I'd go with that.
No idea about PC drivers for either though.

Bah Ive just seen the Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 and Virtua Stick High Grade - shame they arent easily available here...

Would love the HRAP3 as having the 4 button layout would work better for me :D

Cheers :) http://www.hori.jp/us/products/ps3/fighting_stick/index.html

Shame the Hori doesnt work with PS2 games - still actually play quite a few, guess I wont need to with HD Remix coming out...

£25 seems surprisingly cheap - will pick it up - anyone got one to verify how good it is? Looks solid though...

It does work with PS2 games. I have this one ( Got it from Jersey for 18 quid). Used it to play Anthology.
Not looked for PC drivers recently, but weren't any at beginning of year when I got this.

Cheers mate,

Ive found it for £28 - doesnt seem to be many shops selling them so thats fine - glad to hear it supports PS2 games as I still play the old Tekkens (Tekken 3 mainly) and have got SF Alpha Anth too...

Is it microswitched?!? How solid does it feel - will it take some punishment?

Do you think it an easier experience on your old hands too?!? :p. When I get it Ill get Tekken 5 on the PS3 and give you a thrashing :p (though I hate what theyve done to the Tekken fighting system since 4 :()

It is microswicthed (as all good sticks are). Not played it on older Tekken games but can't see why it won't work. I will double check Anthology later, as I am 99% certain but have not had the stick at my house for a few months, so cant be certain.

I have given it a fair hammering on Tekken (I do hit buttons hard) and it is none the worse for wear. Have dropped it a couple of times (maybe 2-3 feet) The 8 buttons takes some getting used to, as I mainly have had 6 button sticks before, but not a problem after a few days.

I been using joysticks and playing in Arcades for years so for me it feels natural, although they are not for everyone. I generally find there is 2 types of actual sticks, this one and ones that are more like http://www.games-asia.com/images/ps2-soulabi.JPG I prefer the former in terms of comfort (And is the norm for most beat-em ups), and you don't see many arcade machines with the other type, pictured, these days.

Never really played a beat em up with a stick before, however the rather appealing pricing and the incredibly promising videos of the new street fighter... oh the temptation.

Get it!!! If not for Christmas when else will you spurge?!?

rp2000 - excellent youve got me sold - HD Remix looks like it will definitely be out this month so its the perfect time. Ive not actually owned a SF game (well apart from SF2 on the Spectrum and Alpha Anth that Ive only just got; and only played it in the arcades really). Never liked exclamation style sticks as you could slip off when doing a move (full circle for example)

Cool, just played Anthology. The stick definitely works. In Alpha and Alpha 2 I am struggling to pull of continuous dragon punches, yet in 3 I can. Might be due to 3 being faster game than the others or some sort of input lag? I don't have any other PS2 fighters to test it on though.

I mainly play 2 and 3 and definitely find both games the timings are different, for some reason.

In 2 I can not pull off Akuma's LP, LP, F, LK, HP every time. It seems like I am pressing buttons to fast, but if I do it at the same speed in Alpha 3 it is fine. Same with Dragon punches and fireballs.

I was wondering if you can do Zangiefs spinning pile driver easily? Just been reading up on the stick and saw this user review:

The Hori Fighting Stick 3 is a solid entry in Hori's line of joystick products. As the only arcade stick widely available for the Playstation 3 in the USA, it has some big shoes to fill. Fortunately, it comes through in most areas. It's the best in its class and with the new backwards-compatibility updates to the PS3, you can even use this with your favorite PS1 and PS2 games.

The HFS3 offers a Japanese style ball-top joystick with 8 Japanese style convex face buttons. The stick and buttons are all very responsive and perform extremely well in the most intense situations. The joystick has a very sturdy outer case and weighs a respectable 3lbs. It also comes with rubber feet allowing you to comfortably play on a hard surface or your lap. A minor gripe I have about this joystick is the button layout which forces your hand to be in a slightly awkward and uncomfortable position but is definitely not a deal-breaker.

I found this joystick to be terrific in 3D fighting games and have no gripes about it at all. However, when it comes to 2D fighting games, this joystick falls a little short. Most fighting game aficionados will know the importance of circular motions in order to keep your competitive edge. Sadly, this joystick comes with the Japanese standard square restrictor-plate. I find it very difficult to pull off complex combos requiring lots of circular rotations.

If you feel confident enough to do a little modification, you can easily fit a Sanwa JLF and an octagon restrictor-plate into this stick. This is a great option since it comes with such a low-price tag giving you some wiggle room for upgrades.

Overall, I think this is a solid purchase for anyone that wants to expand their fighting game experience. I thoroughly enjoy playing fighting games on the Playstation 3 more because of this stick and have a lot of fun playing some older PS1/PS2 games with it as well.

Youll be glad to know that the default speed for HD Remix is faster than Arcade Turbo 3/4 so that sounds good considering your Alpha 1/2 issues with this stick...
