Hi, I own a AV350 downstairs, powering my stereo speakers... I was considering moviing it upstairs to power my 5.1 setup with bluray.

I have just learnt it doesn't do HD audio over HDMI and only via analogue... I have a Nvidia sheild TV with all my movies on a hard drive.

So will it send any audio via HDMI down converted? Or can I only use optical?

I'm not sure how bad things would sound via optical or if I should look to buy a HDMI to analogue converter ( if there is one)

Thanks

If you mean it'll use a 5.1/7.1 analogue RCA input - such as from a BD player 5.1/7.1 out, then you'll need more than a HDMI to analogue converter. You'll need a HD audio decoder. If such a thing exists, it'll be bloody expensive.

FYI my av pre has 5.1 RCA in, my BD player has 5.1 RCA out so I think that is what you're trying to achieve.

Ok thanks... I only have a Nvidia sheild TV which only does HDMI out..

How about if I buy a cheapish Blu-ray player that does HDMI input.. I know the oppo 103 did this.

Nvidia Shield ------ Bluray player input----- Bluray Analogue outs ----- Arcam

That would work wouldn't it?
