Archer C7 AC1750

Will work fine with basically any ISP seeing as the C7 is only a router no modem. You would be hard pressed to find any modern router that does not support RFC 1483 which is what MER encapsulation requires. Problems occur with all in one (modem and router devices) when the modem side does not parse the encapsulation correctly. This is thankfully becoming rare also.

You need the D7 for a one box solution or a HG612 or ECI modem and the C7, it's a good buy at it's reduced rate and reviewed well. It's not true MER as I understand it, but that's not really important, it'll work with a suitable modem and just use the latest firmware.

What is the best firmware to run this box for sky. I hear the WiFi signal keeps on dropping out if you don't update it. Cheers

The latest will normally be best. What do you mean by wifi dropping out? DO you mean things at a long distance from the device will not connect or do you mean even if sat next to the device wifi will not connect?

If things work when close to the device wifi is not dropping out it is just not reaching whatever device you have which is a distance away from the router or the device is behind too many walls etc to get a decent signal.

a friend gave me his TP-LINK Archer D2 Wireless Modem Router will this work for my sky fiber.cheers

That will work as a router only if you have FTTC, if you have ADSL then it will work as a modem and router. The device does support MER...
