We finally got approved for a loft conversion in April, yay. It took longer than normal as our architect went AWOL with personal issues. I had cancelled him until a building company said the drawings were really good and near completion so go back and get them finished to save money which we did.

Because he's done the whole project up until now, it made sense for him to do the building regulations too.

We were told it would take 2-3 weeks from mid May. Well we're now mid June and I have nothing. He's told us his usual structural engineer is busy and asked if we knew anyone. I contacted a company immediately who said they'd do it and forwarded that on over a week back. No response...

I'm doubting he's done the work and I'm getting increasingly annoyed again.

I feel we're stuck with him unless I don't get anything back before the end of the month.

Has anyone had similar experiences?

No, but if they aren't managing to provide a service in a fair timeframe, give them a fair deadline and tell them after that you are switching to someone else.

Are they registered with ARB? And did your contract include a timeline or programme for completing the design? And what have you paid them for so far?
