archive and install question

Not sure too much about the mac install process but I have ran an archive and reinstall and now all my old settings are moved to a folder called previous system 1. Anyone know if it is safe for me to delete this folder off the hard drive?

yeah system seems to be running well but im just not sure about how 3rd party applications are reinstalled. I think i will maybe just move the folders to a temporary location and if it screws up then move it back. It is a real handy feature the archive and install - saves so much hassle.
