At work we don't bother with a server as its <10 people we just have a shared NAS drive instead.

There is a fair bit of videos and editing that goes on and the NAS drive is filling up slowly. We have files that are still needed but old and no longer accessed. So I would like to clear space off the NAS.

What would people recommend to do with these? I was thinking to put them in azure cold store but I would like to have a copy in case azure vanishes.

Any ideas?

It's not an answer to where to put the data but a short term stopgap could be compression, depending on the data you mileage will vary.

How much data are you talking about ?

Would another basic NAS set as just an archive on the network not just do the job ? As its an archive, a very basic device would suffice surely ? That way, it would plug into the existing infrastructure of how your work works.

"In case Azure vanishes"? What do you mean? Azure is one of Microsoft's biggest earners, it's not going anywhere!

I think you will find Azure extremely expensive compared to some home-grown solution like expanding the existing server, or buying a cheaper server for the archive data.
