Hi,

I recently installed the x64 version of ArchLinux on my macbook pro and i have to say 'WOW!' this is by far the best, most configurable straight forward linux there is. within 4 hours of installation i had everything bar the iSight working. I am just literally amazed.

I will be posting a walkthrough of the installation after i finish work tomorrow evening so that anyone else interested can have a peek.

Also anyone looking to move to linux or looking for a new distro should definetly consider this, it has a great Wiki and forum community and you seriously won't go back, it's ideal for newbies as well as experienced linuxers. If anyone has questions about the installation or general ArchLinux questions, feel free to email me (in trust) and as i said i will post guide up here tomorrow evening all being well :)

i have to disagree here. people moving from windows want a straight forward gui install. I myself use archlinux and the setup is far from straight forward if you run into a problem. you need to know your way around lots of config files sutch as ~/.xinitrc rc.conf xorg. xorg.conf and have to be comfortable with the command line and know how to use aur and compile from source (unless you use yaourt).
however i will try help you with your walk through when it is published :)

While Arch isnt for complete beginners, it has extremely good documentation and as long as you can read and follow web pages the setup isnt that bad at all. And everything post-install is also very well covered in wiki guides. Just takes some willingness to learn really :)

Agree with the above although i have come across some arch wikis that are slightly out of date now.

Arch Linux and Ubuntus alternate installer are almost identical too btw, and i always come out with a better experience configuring arch than i do deconfiguring the crap in ubuntu
