Codemasters Online Gaming has recently announced that due to
community feedback from within the ArchLord BETA we have made the
decision to cancel the proposed PLAYplus system in favour of a
traditional flat monthly subscription fee.

ArchLord will now launch with a standard monthly subscription of UK
£8.99 / US $14.99 / Europe EUR12.99 (plus applicable taxes). The single
monthly subscription will also include free credits for all players
to redeem against in-game enhancements. So now all players will
receive the same amount of credits each month as part of the single
monthly subscription, providing a level playing field for all
subscribers of the game.

We are also pleased to be able to announce that the race to become
ArchLord will commence shortly with the game shipping to stores on
the 3rd / 6th October in North America and Europe respectively.

As part of the introduction of the standard monthly subscription
Codemasters Online Gaming is currently evaluating a series of other
additional in-game benefits to reward the games early and most loyal
players with more details to follow soon.

We are extremely keen to thank all ArchLord BETA players for their
constructive feedback regarding the PLAYplus system and we are
pleased to be able to take this feedback on board and deliver this
update to the game.

There are still places left in the ArchLord beta for the final week;
to join the beta test pre-order ArchLord now by visiting

It's almost time to raise your army and rule the world...

Many Thanks,

I somehow think Codemasters are less than thrilled to annouce this. :p

I have to wonder how Codemasters did such a terrific job of finding the worst Korean/Asian mmorpgs and launched them (badly) in the West.

This post on the official ArchLord message board announces that the Codemasters MMORPG is now free to play, discontinuing the monthly fees for the game. People who paid for subscriptions fees ahead of time will be refunded their money. Here is a snip:
That's right, today is the last day billing date, so December 4 - January 4 will be the last month of billing for ArchLord. We shall no longer be taking subscriptions as of today (December 4). Those of you that have paid for more game time in bulk will be refunded; the full details of how players will be affected will be explained in an email you shall be receiving over the next couple of days.

I have seen a number of posts on this subject their appears to be a divide between players on Free To Play being a good idea or not. Despite going Free To Play ArchLord will still continue to receive its usual high level of support. I know some of you have noted that the GM count has been reduced but this will not have any impact on the degree of support you will receive. We have reduced the number of GMs to keep inline with staffing requirements, we were previously over supported. Content - ArchLord will carry on receiving updates from NHN and we shall continue to request updates from them. Season II: Season of Siege shall be posted on to our test server soon and we fully intend to open that up and allow you guys to help us with testing.
I am sure that you will all have your thoughts on this and I look forward to reading them but please remember everyone is allowed to post a comment so do not start flaming people if you disagree with them. We at Codemasters Online Gaming feel this is the best move for ArchLord. It will open the game up to new players, providing a steady stream of PvP candidates for you all to do battle with.

ArchLord is not going to be shutdown, a fear I have seen some of you voice. I and the ArchLord team are committed to the game and ensuring that it does well. We realise that it's not perfect yet but are working hard to improve the game and are in daily communication with NHN discussing game changes, bugs, etc. Those of you are that are currently playing I hope you continue to do so, those that have left please come back and carry on playing ArchLord really does have a lot of exciting content coming up.

so basicaly, the relesed the game too eirly for even EA to cope with and have gone back to an open beta system.

I also think Codemasters needed to learn the ropes in the mmorpg world before LOTR hits the scene. At least they are learning the problems now on smaller games, so to speak, than having a licence for a game that a lot of people will want to play and screwing that up. As problems with that game is something they definitely dont want happening.

In a way a bad thing for the players of the current games but they at least are willing to change if things aren't working and learn.

Nah, sure they've been running D&D Online for a year now, they should know what they're doing. I really do think they just want to shift a few more boxes before the whole thing goes down the pan.

Makes me a bit worried about how they're going to manage LOTR, to be honest :(

Codemasters should have more then enough experience by now, they were beta testing their own mmorpg before ditching it to bring other games to the UK.
