Arctic Announces MX-7 Thermal Interface Material

I found mx6 difficult to apply - not fluid enough - and no real difference in temps.

Am still using it tho !! (I usually clean and repaste every 6 months or so and it is then that I look to , possibly, change paste - probably in late may early june)

How are you applying it?

Arctic states to use a X it's not a 'spreadable' paste like some others.

Why do I re-paste every 6 months or so - I like to dismantle , clean and re-build every now and then (very theraputic !).

Will try the 'x' approach next time - spreading was a bit of a pain but got there in the end (unless I decide to change paste!)

More risk of damage. Paste lasts years.

Zero benefit of changing paste that often.

Im just thinking of changing mine but the temps are not too bad, in the low 70s. And I havent touched the cpu/heatsink or redone the paste in 8yrs, just blow out the fans/heatsink/case every 1-2yrs.

I installed a new heatsink a few days ago with MX-7.

Heeded the warning that it's a lot thicker compared to MX-4 (left over from years ago and still seems useable), so left it on the radiator while I worked out the heatsink assembly. It took a bit of firm pressure to get going but was relatively easy to control the amount at around what must have been 35-40C or thereabouts.

I couldn't say if its performing any better than the ~2 yr old Kryonaut used previously as the new cooler makes comparison worthless. It seems to be doing the job fine.

Ive heard people sticking it in a hot cup of water for a few mins before applying it?

I'm sure that would get it a bit hotter, and faster, making it a easier to apply but didn't fancy the faff off doing it, wet hands and syringe, drying it. Too many extra steps.

Ummm I havent got a radiator, wonder if the warmth from my hands will do anything?... Also Im going to repaste my laptop and see if I can get the temp down from 100c as it can't be doing it any good surely?

Well my mate redid the paste on my desktop and laptop pc 's as I can't do it with not having steady hands..

Im not sure about the desktop pc as I haven't put the side on the case yet, so haven't anything to compare it with but its in the low 20s(min) low 60s(max)atm... But laptop wow, about 30c difference as the max temp is now in the high 60s low 70s from 90-100c. Im guessing it was never done properly when the manufacture made the the laptop to have that much of a temp drop, and the cpu fan actually stops spinning when its idel and doesn't spin up to full speed anymore either...

Ive used the single line method on both cpus and will update you on my desktop pc temps later..

Well Ive run burntest for 6hrs on desktop pc(with side on) but everything was too slow to get a screenshot, dammet. But temps were and stayed in the low 60s, so thats a 5-10c drop but I have also blown out 3yrs of dust of the case.

Ive just done another burntest for a few hrs..........

With old Arctic Silver 5

Really impressed with MX-7. Tried it on my 9950x3d, I'm finding it to perform the same/ better within error compared to Duronaut.

£6-8 for 8g is ridiculously cheap.

Got a order yesterday, and it is MX-4. I will dump that and order the MX-7 instead. The 2x8 grams come to £14. Not bad.
