Hey there. New forum, hey? Looks good on you. I like.

I am planning a road trip from my house in the Alsace up to the Arctic circle. A lovely 6000km roundtrip. Hopefully, in a sub $1000 Scandinavian car (I'm punting on a Volvo right now, why wouldn't you?)

There are some activities that are must dos I think, but along the way I go through, or could, a number of places.

Suggestions for things I should add along the way?

This is the suggested route: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Bas...7!2m2!1d23.8643889!2d66.5535045!3e0?entry=ttu

Could be persuaded to go a scenic route home via finland, latvia, lithuania, poland, czech rep. etc. for a laugh. Maybe a night in each country on the way back?

We're brainstorming here people. Helicopter, blue sky thinking. There is no such thing as a bad idea. Except yours, John.

What we saying people?

There's literally nothing north of Luleå :p

Is that last stop Umeå or Skellefteå?

Weird place to end any reason you wanted to stop there, coming back through Finland?

Are you taking magnolia with you?

I just put arctic circle in there. I wouldn't stress that as the actual spot. I have a couple of places up there to stop on the finnish side, which will no doubt be the final stop. Sleep in one of them there igloo things under the stars and that, then head back, maybe the Finland way!
I'm not sure Mags will get through borders

Different time of year, but worth watching if nothing more then its a great document of his trip to the Arctic Circle in a Rolls Royce.

Envy you putting this together! On the bucket list to do this myself - if our MG i co-own hadn't lunched itself on a recent track day it would have been the prime candidate for it.

YES!

I mean, there is no flex like a roller in the arctic circle! I haven't seen the full video, so that'll be tonight's viewing.

I dont have a suitable car at the moment, but have a couple of volvos I'm looking at to see if I can pick up a sub 1k motor to add to the **** yourself fear of it making it there and back :D

Will love to hear about this as it is something I'd absolutely do as well. So cheap to buy a banger and try your luck!

I love it!

I may... may have just agreed to pick up a Volvo XC90 with tow bar (bonus!) 2.4D manual, 7 seater from Bournemouth for under my 1k budget!

I just need to see if I can collect it on 3rd Feb.

Hopefully I can use all my gopros, drone and cameras to create some nice shots and tell the story well for the videos! I think it's an adventure anyway... see if anyone else agrees! haha

Thanks man, just got to get over my internal fear of giving it my all!

I'm absolutely in favour of you coming back the easterly route through Finland, Estonia etc.

Without a doubt you'll find the more interesting sides of life the further you are from the West.

Unless I missed something, you didn't mention which time of year you'll be doing the journey or how long you'll have.

I was up in Northern Finland a month ago and it was -32°C which is the coldest I've ever experienced. Buy a cheap car with a good heater.

Tangent.

I'm going to be going somewhere that's -10 to -15.
How did you find it? Any tips apart from layers and layers!

-10 won’t feel as cold as you might imagine, the dry air is crisp rather than that damp cold we often get here.

As you say, layers are your friend rather then some massive duffel coat. Unless you'll be standing around, in which case maybe a big coat might be good.

If it's still it will be fine. But if it's windy and wet and around zero, that will be the worst.

Still just need a good pair of gloves!

Looks like that's the route I'm going to take. I'll do longer stints up there to get there and take more time coming back.

I am pretty sure I'm losing my job soon, so I'll have a ton of time (but I share custody with my ex) so reckon I'll do about 10days... I think. I might do 5 days up, 5 days back. A day in each country on the way back. 3 days getting up there, 2 days up there etc.

You might as well make it an epic return trip via Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Poland!
Yea, think this is the way to go. Way more interesting.
I think my son is going to come. He's 19 and so we should have some fun.

I'm picking up a Volvo XC90 on Saturday for this trip. Will report back. That in itself is a series of trains, planes, coaches, and cars to get it lol

Two route options. Damn that North cape adds on over 1000km!! **** son.

Will leave them open and see how things go.

The way back though seems like it is set where I plan to stop. Could be a serious hoot through these places.
