Hey guys,

How should I apply arctic silver 5 compound to a 2500k? I've looked on the arctic website at their instructions but I just wanted to double check with the "experts" before I get started ;)

Also, I've noticed a few new additions to the arctic compound range; has anything surpassed as5?

Cheers!

Depends on the HS.

If the base of the HS is smooth i would use the rice sized blob method in the middle of the CPU and then screw on the HS using the diagonal method (or use annoying pushpins applying same diagonal method - but breaking your thumbs in the process).

If you have exposed heatpipes on the base of the HS post back and i'll copy and paste one of my old posts on how to apply the AS.

TBH, quality gunk is quality gunk - there's very little between them and values will vary mostly due to the better/worse contact between the HS and CPU on time of fitting.

Ease of application and ease of cleaning is a bonus.

The H60 comes pre-applied with Shin-Etsu which is good stuff - you could just stick it straight on the CPU.

If not i would go with the rize/pea sized blob as my preferred method.

You could always use the 'single' very (very) thin line method too - but be sure to leave a 5mm gap at the ends of the cpu.

I just put AS5 on my H60 onto 2600k.
(Cos the H60 had come off of a I5750)
I'm guessing it will take a week or so to cure, but it is initially idling at 30c... (in quite a warm, south facing room) atleast its working.
