Hmmmm ok i think i messed up, i have a ATI 9800 which i purchased 2nd hand, in device manager it shows it as a 9800XT so i went and got a ATI Silencer 3 thinking it was XT on taking the card out it appears i notice a sticker that says 9800pro 128.

So looks like i have a 9800pro which has been flashed to XT.

My dilema, will the silencer 3 fit the 9800pro, I don't want to open the blister pack to find it doesn't fit and then not be able to return it!

The difference i can see is that the silencer 1 for the 9800pro had two mounting holes whereas the XT silencer 3 has 4.

Can anyone help with the compatability?

It wont fit as far as I can tell. Arctic cooling wouldnt have made a cooler specifically for the XT otherwise

My thoughts too before it arrived, but the packaging does say 9800pro 256mb as well, but there must be a difference between the pro 128 and the 256 because all XTs are 256 i think

FYI; the later 9800 pros were actually on a XT PCB; so you may not have the wrong one.

What make of 9800 pro is it? I have one (its dead) with the XT PCB and put the arctic cooler for the pro on it and it fitted but not quite right.

I have offered my pro up vs the arctic cooling diagram and mine has the 4 mounting holes where the XT silencer has mounts and it seems to clear all the caps.

Hope this helps.

This is mine which has which has several holes:

it appears to be the Atlantis 9800pro this one

Which looks different to the picture of the one you sent me.

Would i need to remove the copper sinks as well?

Edit: After hours of googling this evening although my 9800pro is a R360 hence being flashed to XT it doesn't have the XT PCB so the Sliencer 3 wont fit it - oh well!

Yep your right

Yours doesn't have the XT PCB, so it ain't gonna fit.

Worth a check as a lot of R360 cores were in XT PCBs.
