Hi guys n gals,

Ive jut recieved my E6600 and "Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro", and was wondering if i should leave the thermal pad on it or use the "Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound" that i also purchaced.

its been bugging me all day and am unsure what to do for best. also do i apply the arctic silver 5 to the heatsink or chip.

any help would be great and agen really sorry for asking a question on my first post.

Just try it with whats already on mate, if you reckon it's looking too high you;ll just have to reseat it with Artic Silver :)

I would not use the normal thermal pad, the as5 will be better. And its a lot of hastle to re seat it becuase the whole mobo has to be removed. You might as well do it right first time.

as brightside said - And if you've never cleaned off/reapplied and reseated a heatsink before best stay with the applyed stuff (it actually quite good anyway) seen some crazy temp from a poorly applyed AS5 application

Edit: MX-1 the stuff on your Artic Cooler is also completely non-conductive unlike the siver/copper compounds - I except that AS5 or even AS3 are excerlent but not worth the effort for a 1 or 2 degree drop at load (if it was a generic thermal compound then defernatly yes (as you could get 8-10 drop in temp) but MX-1 is NOT low tech goo.

I 2nd that last opinion. The stuff that is preapplied is excellent. Save the AS5 for the next time you have to reseat your cooler.

cant believe the great responce :) thanks everyone, ill go with the pad then, i didnt realise that it was good stuff.

thanks again

regards jay.
