is there anyway to improve the cooling performance of an AC NV6, overvolt the motor, use different thermal compound, different motor, etc?

I don't think the ACs from NV5 onwards are very highly-regarded... People who previously swore by them have all switched to Zalmans. I had one, and, although quieter than the stock cooler, it reduced my card's temps only marginally. After a month of use the fan started rattling (and it wasn't dust, just poor quality plastics), so it didn't even have the advantage of silence and I got a Zalman too. Considering how many people have complained about the poor quality of the fans on those things, I wouldn't dare overvolt it, unless you're looking for an excuse to upgrade your graphics card!
I did always think that the big, solid heatsink could be somehow moddable to make a decent cooler out of it. Maybe by removing the plastic duct, unplugging the fan, and using a Zalman bracked to fit a decent fan on top of it? :p If you don't want to destroy yours trying I could always send you mine as it's useless to me! :D

i got one for nothing from a friend, we tried to make our own cooler once, with not much luck using several plastic tubes, a copper heatsink, an exaust out the back of the case and a fan to force air through the tubes. :p

Edit: only using the NV6 until i get my FS-V7 working again, needs new fan from zalman, its really bad compaired to the V7, quieter though ;)
