Arctic Freezer 2 question

Hi,

I'm considering one of these but I have a concern.

They are thicker than most rads so when mounted to the ceiling of my case I dont think it will clear the CPU power cable which as with most cases connects on the top left and goes up

Does anyone have a 240 model in a Meshify C? Or a similar case that could advise? I'm not even sure if it will clear the shrouds on the motherboard at this point

Thanks

Shame about no replies I thought this was a popular cooler, I'll give this a bump before I get the tape measure out and try and work it out which will likely fail miserably!

screw 2 fans together and see how much space you have at the top. You're GPU must be massive if 17mm extra at the front will interfere with it.

38mm thick rad plus 25mm thick fan in a meshify C mounted at the front won't work as it will impact my GPU

Two fans is only 50mm, don't you have one of these coolers, would have thought you would have been aware of the thickness of the rad if so

3 fans it 75mm which is more than the 38mm + 25mm of the unit. Putting two fans together would let you see how much room you have and where you can position it. I thought that would have been obvious.

I used to have a cryorig AIO that was 38mm thick.

You said 2 fans, thats 50mm

Now your saying 3 fans, thats 75mm

The AIO is 63mm Inc fans thick so if it's obvious you're making it less obvious

It won't go in the front as I've said, it should fit in the ceiling but it's a risk, I don't know if I can be bothered with the hassle of returning it if it doesn't fit so might just stick with air or look at slimmer aios

Do you have the care? Your best bet is to measure it. :)

if you don’t someone with the case needs to help you out or get a 25mm thick rad.

just out of curiosity why this specific AIO, is it because it has been branded the best? It’s only got 24month warranty compared with Corsair and NZXT. Is that something worth considering

Yes I have the case and measured up, I think it will clash with the CPU power cable but it's difficult to tell for sure

I think I'm going to pull out the pc tomorrow and see if I can get the cable to bend round a bit more to free up a couple of mm

The 240mm artic aio is the best under £100 from what I can see reading up on it, cost/performance seems to be up there but reliability is yet to be seen so the 2 year warranty is a concern

Have you thought about buying those after market extension cable that makes the cable flat so it can probably give you a bit more wiggle?

If it is a couple of mm you will get away with it, it is just a royal pain to get it in. Also ever thought about getting 12mm fans instead of 25mm I think noctua has slim fan in 120mm config

Not sure what you mean by the flat ones I've got some braided pcie cables but not seen flat, I'll have a look, thanks

I'll pull the pc out today and measure properly I think as long as nothing sticks out more than 40mm it should be fine but I'm pretty sure the CPU cable is taller than that

I don't think I would want to put slim fans on, additional cost for less performance doesn't make sense to me and the P12's are a very good fan for the money it would be a shame to replace them

Not sure if you're still looking at this OP, but I have the 360mm in the top of my Fractal Define 7, in push pull. It fits because my case can take 120mm or 140mm up top, and the radiator actually sits more towards the glass panel side of the case, so even though it sits over the ram sticks (can't take them out without getting the rad off, it gives a decent amount of room over the mobo. I think the meshify also does 140mm up top so might work for you?

Edit: I can take a pic of the radiator mount later if you think it might help

Thanks, yes you can mount 140mm fans but only 240 rad max but I understand what you mean, the rad will be closer to the glass than the rear because of the 120mm mounting points

Confirmed this won't fit in my case today, not for the reason I expected though, I can clear the PSU cable by a millimetre but the RAM is a problem unfortunately, its not even that tall but glad I spotted it before I ordered

Another reason to stick with air I suppose

You can always take the ram heatsink off as your rad fans will be sucking air directly over them or change the heatsink to shorter ones?

I think I'm just going to stick with air, my case is more geared towards air than water cooling but I'm going to keep an eye on what cases come out and change it at some point and I'll look at aios again then

Thanks for comments

This looks fantastic for the price, I'm tempted to get one for my InWin 303 case. Is the thickness of the rad and fans really about 65mm? My case has a slot for a 360 rad and fans but with this fitted, the clearance between the fans and side window will be about 5-6mm which will probably choke the fans something fierce.

The rad is 38mm so it's quite thick compared to most other aio's

Fans are 25mm

Hmm, thanks for confirming the dimensions on those two.. that'd leave me with 7mm between the fan and the side window. Do you think that's enough space for the fans to get enough air in?

It's hard for me to say as I have no experience with your case and the AIO but if it was me I would be weighing up the fact that the 360 version is a bit of a beast so depending on the CPU and if a 360 is overkill for it, it should be fine but of it's a hot CPU then the gap might cause an issue

If the mounting area is filtered you could set it up as intake instead but again that depends on your CPU and how much heat will be dumped in your case

That makes sense, thanks for your help. I can fit a 360 in the top of the case and the 240mm looks a little weird with the added gap as it's completely visible from the side of the PC.

I think the Arctic Freezer 2 might be a bit too thick for my case to work well, the lack of space might choke the fans a bit too much in this case. The new EKWB AIO looks like a solid performer, albeit nowhere near as cheap :(

There is a 280 version but the P14 fans are 27mm so add another 2mm to the total thickness

You've obviously seen Gamers Nexus video today on the EK AIO, it looks good in terms of performance but like you say, its expensive.

I simply cant fit an Arctic AIO in my Meshify C unless its the 120 version which is also 38mm in thick so will outperform most other 120mm rads and might even perform as well as some 240's when installed as intake, also it wont affect GPU temps too much in a standard ATX case as the airflow would go over the GPU and the GPU would still have its own case intake fan. Hmmm I'm justifying a 120mm rad to myself here, tempted to try it.
