This CPU fan has been making a whine/clicking noise on and off for months, often it goes away by its self, other times i have to stop the fan with my finger then it starts up again silently. After adding a few PCI cards my mobo (Asus P5Q Pro Turbo), said "CPU fan error". Now the noise is WAY louder and consistent regardless of dusting, cleaning and re-inserting the power. Cold booting make it worse.

So is this fan failing? If so am i able to simply buy another fan and attach it to the heat sink, since i REALLY want to avoid changing that? The fan seems to have two "clips" that attach to the heat sink; if i buy another Arctic Freezer 7 Pro could i simply detach the old and attach the new and problem solved? Also I don't know which version i have as it doesn't seem to say on the fan (but i bought it over four years ago) and only Version 2 is available so are the fans backwards compatible? Finally can i buy this as a replacement? It says its a "case" fan and i don't see any "clips" so don't know if it would fit. Thansk

If I remember right those fans are only attached to the frame by rubber mounts. You should be able to remove the fan from the frame and fit it to the frame of the AC Pro 7's fan so that you can clip it back onto the heatsink. You really want the pwm version of the F9 pro though.
