Hmm,

Was just wondering what the general consensus is with regards to applying paste to this cooler?

4 direct contact heat pipes and the official Arctic line is to run a bead of TIM up each pipe.

Ill be honest, I made an utter dick of that......like 4 badly filled sausages...lol.

I always used to like the "clingfilm over finger spreading" approach but doubt that applies to direct heatpipe affairs.

Any thoughts?

when fitting one of these to my friends i5 build, I couldnt think of a more awkward, cumbersome, paste eating monster.

I ran a line up each of the pipes then 2 of us wrestled with it for 5 mins.

Best method I found was to first apply the paste to the base of the cooler and spread with a bank card to fill all the gaps and remove the excess. Then a thin line on the cpu going across the heatpipes. And yes these are greedy b**gers, a tube of MX-2 used to do four applications.

I use the spreading with finger method when it comes to Direct Contact Heat Pipe Coolers, always worked great for me.

Gotta be careful you don't get non-thermal grease buildup if you do it that way. You'd have to clean your hands really well before hand. Credit card would be better.
