ARCTIC PRESS INFORMATION ON MX-5 THERMAL COMPOUND
For ARCTIC, it has always been a top priority to supply customers only with products of the best quality and durability. Should there ever be any doubts about products we’ve delivered, we stand by our responsibility to our customers.
Current findings from our permanent quality assurance tests show that certain batches of our MX-5 thermal compound contain anomalies in consistency and shelf life. The affected products show an increased separation of oil within the paste, resulting in premature hardening. This can lead to adverse effects and application difficulties.
Affected batches have already been identified and recalled from circulation so that no further affected product can enter the market. We regret that this quality defect could not be detected before delivery to distributors and customers, despite constant quality controls and diligent care during production.
Affected MX-5 thermal compounds can of course be returned without exception, and we will offer a replacement product. For this purpose, we ask you to contact us and provide proof of purchase via the form.

Unfortunately it doesn't say which batches are affected. @Gibbo?

Am guessing I'll be ok I got this March 1st last year when it was first released and had no issues with application and it looked fine and temps are good too. Might pull my cooler off tomorrow and have a look (hopefully its not glued to my CPU).

Has anyone got a response from OcUK about this as I bought some last week too - be easier than contacting Arctic individually and them working out what they sent to OcUK...

Got a reply this morning.

Hi Joseph,

We regret that this defect could not be detected before delivery to distributors and end customers, despite constant quality controls and utmost care in the production of the goods.

There is no risk for already applied thermal paste, as this concerns the application of the thermal paste. The performance of already applied thermal paste is also not negatively affected by this.

A slight bleeding/oiling is completely normal for a silicone-based thermal compound.

With affected pastes, a clear separation of the components is visible, so that an oily yellowish film emerges from the syringe.

Affected pastes can be returned and refunded directly to the dealer or via the sales platform.

Alternatively, we offer an exchange with a higher grammage MX-4. For this we need a picture proof of the separation (picture of the paste on a sheet of paper, as well as the entire syringe). In case of uncertainty, the product must be sent in at cost.
We will then send the corresponding replacement free of charge. Payment via ARCTIC is only possible if ARCTIC was also the respective seller.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused.

Indeed! Arctic has been doing a decent job of dealing with problem that is not of their making (no pun). They announced the problem and are replacing any that is bad. If your MX-5 is consistent mix and color it's good, go ahead and use it. If it's part oil and part thick putty then it's bad and Arctic is giving free replacement.

I use Thermalright TFX and TF-8 so don't have any MX-5, but I've used it a few times finding it a good product.
