Have been experiencing some high temperatures on my MSI GX660 so have decided to give the internals a good clean and replace the thermal paste on both the CPU and GPU.

Have got my Arctic Silver ready but am confused as to the best style of application. Do i go for a small blob in the middle and then spread thinly or small blob then re-fit the heatsink etc.

Any advice is appreciated :)

I've seen a few people put a small blob in the middle then spread it around a little bit with some card or something thin.

but the way i've always done it is apply a small blob in the middle then attach the heatsink as the paste will spread from the pressure.

As Columbo would say, one last thing...have just cleaned out the fan vents and surrounding area. The vents were completely clogged, no wonder the air wasn't flowing and the temperatures were reaching up to 90 degrees

Next is to change the thermal paste but having never done this on a laptop is it the same procedure as with a desktop e.g. remove the heatsink, clean up both that and the CPU/GPU areas, apply a pea size amount of Arctic Silver paste to the CPU/GPU and re-assemble.

Can find any guide on t'internet that relates specificaly to the GX-660 but did read on another forum about not touching the thermal pads for the CPU/GPU..I'm assuming this will be on the bottom of the heatsink???
