Are 360's still crashing ?

360's don't crash. There may be the odd game that has a bug (Lego StarWars 2 for example) but the 360 itself it pretty robust. They do however seem pretty partial to the odd complete system meltdown (3 red rings).

Saying that, I've had mine 18 months and used it pretty much every day without any problems and I do think the unreliablility card is a little overplayed as I know a lot of people who've still got launch consoles going strong (Nokkon for example).

If they do go wrong the MS service is pretty good (they actually fix your console not just ship you a dodgy replacement these days) and you can also choose an extended warranty or pay for a fix (£80 I think) after your years warranty is up.

I got a 360 at launch as a replacement for PC gaming and I've had the best gaming experience of my life. For racing PGR3, Test Drive Unlimited, Burnout: Revenge and now Forza 2 will provide plenty to keep you happy. GTA IV with 360 exclusive episodic content is out this October and both Crackdown and Saints Row were well received so you have something similar to give you that fix while you wait.

I've nothing against the PS3 other than at the moment I just don't think it a) has the games or b) has the best 07 line up. All I can do is recommend a 360 and at £229.96 at a certain online retailer for 360 premium and WWE Smackdown you really can't go wrong.

PS You can get a seperate VGA cable to connect it to you monitor.

If i hook it up to my monitor can it also be hooked up to something for the audio ? has it got sound outputs on the back ?

it comes with 2 phono ports aswell, you can get adapters to turn the 2 phono into a single 3.5mm jack so can plug into speakers - unless your monitor/tv supports the Red+White phono leads.

And it still has optical connection so can go straight into an AMP or something

The VGA cable has optical out (have to buy the lead separately though) and this is what I use to connect to my amp. It also has stereo audio cables.

Looks like I'll very probably be getting a 360 then just for Forza 2.
I bought a PS1 for Grand Turismo and forza pretty much looks like its similar and as the lastest GT game won't be out for over six months no point in getting a PS3.

Plus I like the fact you can wreck your car in Forza i think ! judging by the screen shots i've seen, thats probably the worst bit in the GT series.

Bought mine in December and it's not put a foot wrong really. Only crashed a few times in COD but apparently its just a buggy game.

On my 6th one now.

I was going to stop when my 5th broke in February. The Wii was (and still is) keeping me well occupied, but a few weeks ago the lack of good multiplayer games was too much to bear and so I got another.

Fact is, while there are problems (severe ones at that, I'm really disappointed in Microsoft for this), the good times far outweigh the bad.

Buy extended warrenty you monkey !! :p
Seriously though - £30 odd for an extra 2 years on top of the manufacturer's 1 year is what I got - even accidental damage (i.e: throwing out of the window in anger)

Can you get this warranty on an already purchased 360?
If you can't then there are third party warranties you can take out, it doesn't have to be from MS or from the shop you bought it from.

I just sent my 360 off this morning. But I didn't get this dreaded 3 red light error everyone seems to get, I got a 1 red light error and an error message on screen. 360s must break a lot, the UPS guy knew exactly what it was :p

Doesn't really bother me as long as it's still in warranty when it happens.

I have had that since launch day. Infact, that happened the first time I ever turned the console on. I still get it now, nothing to worry about.

I have had my X360 dince Dec 05, but apart from RR6 and PGR3 being played for a few months I havent really touched it until recently and Forza 2 (which I look forward to getting home to play each night)

I still have the original console I bought, no swapouts or returns due to the ring of death (the power button highlights green led each quarter to show how many controllers are in use, and flashes/ stays red indicating problems)
however it seems that MS have a huge problem with reliability, which imo they should have sorted long ago.

I have also had a PS3 since UK launch in March, and have Motorstorm which I like and Resistance which i hate. I also do folding at home quite a bit also but currently use it mostly for bluray movies (I have around 35 br hd discs) until more worthwhile games come out (hopefully in the next few months)

I am glad to have both consoles but heaven forbid my x360 broke today I wouldnt rush out to replace it just for forza (£37 I paid for the game is a bargain, but as no other games interest me currently that would turn into nearly £220  )

Im not entirely sure but hoping Colin McCrea Dirt is a cross platform game so I can get it on the PS3 (another game Im really hoping is top quality)

I would rush out to get my ps3 replaced under gaurentee, and even if I had to pay over the full amount again but then thats because I like movies so much and think this unit is worth money (saying that Sony currently dont seem to have any issue at all with reliability - its as rock solid as you would expect)

I fully agree however that apart from a very small selection there arent that many good games on the PS3 just.

Hopefully the above is a fair and balanced view of owning both consoles

have you heard of any issues at all with the ps3s reliability yet?
i know there must be a few faulty ones as nothing is produced to a high standard everytime

i also have a xbox 360 that is still working fine, got mine around march 06 (it was produced dec 05 i think). im not on it 24/7 but i watch all my dvds on it (scales them perfectly on my lcd tv :) dont game too often on it though

I'm guessing you didn't have the exact same problem :p
It doesn't boot up. I get the error message and it doesn't do anything else.

I'm starting to read about problems (though not as many as with 360s) on ps3forums.

I just got home from work and tried to turn my ps3 and it blinks green then yellow then red and beeps 3 times and the red light keeps blinking.....i turned off my ps3 before i went to sleep last night (it was working fine then) and i dont have a clue whats wrong with it now....it is not in a closed space it has plenty of breathing room on both sides and behind it

Any type of attempt for communication from my PS3 to my router will knock the router out-the orange Cisco Systems logo will turn off, and the power light will flash rapidly until the light comes back on.

updated my ps3 to the latest version, and now i cant play blu ray movies. Anyone know what can be wrong?

I went to my friends house who has a HDTV and hooked up my ps3 with a HDMI cable. did all the setups, configured my ps3 for HDMI.

when i got back to my house i tried using my ps3 on my tv and now it doesnt work. my video is all lines and i cant see anything noticable on the screen.

Off the front page alone.

Well they have some catching up to do to equal the amount of 360 problems for sure. I am about to send back my fourth console (probably because of rp and joshua ramming me in forza ;) ) as it's not a video failure this time but the dvd drive scratching discs and getting read errors. Has been flawless otherwise and I am actually thinking of sorting the drive myself in case I get a potential three lighter in it's place...

they all seem like individual problems (but this might just be your selction after thinking about it rather than repeating the same issues)- some like the router one have been dealt with by firmware upgrades and have on the whole been successfully dealt with

Im not saying that the PS3 is perfectly reliable, as indicated above everything manufactred to this scale will have issues, but so far it doesnt look as though there are fundamental design issues as there seem to be with the X360

last issue seems to be that after setting up hdmi, they didnt reset *** video config (a factory reset should sort this if he wasnt able to go back to his friends to configure it va hdmi back to whatever previous settings were)
