Are all ATX cables built to the same wiring configuration?

Hi people.
I am looking for some advice before I inadvertently cause irreperable damage!

I have a home-built computer which had an Asus Gryphon Z97 motherboard, and it was powered by a 19v DC external power block, feeding an internal HDPlex 160watt DC-ATX Converter.

The internal 24pin to 24pin cable from the DC Converter to the motherboard is very short. (10cm)

However, I have now bought an HDPlex 400w HiFi DC-ATX Converter to replace the 160 watt one, and I have to position it further away from the motherboard. I really need a cable of 45cms between the two.

I always thought that ATX cables would be fully interchangeable, but I have recently been told that pin-outs of both DC-ATX converter and of motherboards can be very different.

I would like to avoid using an extension cable, which are easily available. I would rather have a single, straight-through cable.

So can anyone tell me please: Do I need to supply a cable builder such as SHakmods, with pinouts of both the DC-ATX and the motherboard, and trust them to get it right, or can I just buy a 45cm one 'off the shelf'?

Thank you!

Typically modular power supplies have varying pinouts and varying size plug/s - but it looks like your PSU just has a standard layout ATX 24-pin embedded in it.

You can check here - the pinout is on the last diagram. Compare it to an ATX 24 pin pinout from Google.

Do make note of the fact it's male on your PSU and on the motherboard - so you'd need a female-female cable.

It turns out that the power supply wiring is not the same as the pinouts at the motherboard.
So I need to find someone who makes a female to female cable with custom wiring. Of course HDPlex supply a cable with the power supply BUT it is too short for my setup.
Any idea where I can get one from in the UK? I don't want a sleeved, combed cable, because they tend to be rather stiff. I need some flexibility to get around corners.

I'd be inclined to reconfigure a cable - it's easy enough to remove the pins and place them back in another slot. Obviously you'd have to triple check you got it all right before using.

There are some custom cable makers around if you search. Can't recommend as they'd be competing with OcUK :)

A cable like this would be easy to reconfigure (and remove the comb if desired):

Thanks for your help. In the end, I have decided to buy some ptfe sleeved 16AWG multistrand cable, and two Molex 24pin mini female plugs & pins, and will make my own. Not a difficult job. Cheers!
