Are all HDMI cables the same?

Hi guys,

I recently bought a samsung soundbar like this:

https://www.samsung.com/uk/audio-video/soundbar-q60r/

I have a Samsung smart TV too.

I have connected the soundbar to the TV via the ARC HDMI port.

The problem is that the soundbar will work fine but when I turn the TV off and then turn it on later on
the hdmi input just doesn't seem to work properly. Also when I turn the power on the TV I have to seperately use the samsung soundbar remote to turn that on (they are all the same make though)

I checked the settings on the TV and I get the option to change it to HDMI but still the soundbar doesn't work via HDMI. Sometimes on the TV it will say "unknown" on that input port.

I read online having a HDMI cable will allow me to have dolby dts and something else. So I believe HDMI will be better over an optical cable.

I'm suspecting that the old HDMI cable could be the problem here, do I need a newer HDMI cable to solve this issue?

p.s the soundbar is awesome it fully works on a BT connection.

I had a problem with a Sony TV and soundbar where the auto power feature of the soundbar was causing issues. I had to turn off the auto power off feature to then allow the TV to control it. I had a similar problem where it would turn off shortly after the TV, but then when it powered on it would be using the optical input not the HDMI so I kept having to manually change it - until I changed the auto power function.

thanks RTFM :)

- Bluetooth reconnects - got to turn it off
- Any Net + = got to turn off
- Auto power link = got to turn it off
