I want to get my eyes checked so would like to know which opticians people rate. Are tests equal throughout or are some better than others?

Appreciate your opinions :)

An eye test is an eye test and they are all qualified, so it's hard to say one chain is better than the other.

I've been to both specsavers and vision express and they both are fine.

I found going to two different places was the best thing to do.

Originally I went to Tesco and then Vision Express.

Vision Express did a lot more tests but they used projection on to glass for reading which I couldn't read any of the letters at Tesco it was standard type which I had no issues reading all the lines.

I'm sure glasses are built to purposely last 2 years, the coating on mine start to come off just when I'm due another eye test.

As above, it's basically a tick list and all are licensed so should all be the same.

They also, if required have to let you have your prescription to take away with you and cannot make you buy glasses from the place you have the test.

If there is one close to you, Tesco opticians do free tests.

Vision Express took retinal photos and discovered that I in fact do not have Astigmatism, as Optical Express seemed to think, but mild Keratoconus. So I prefer them at the moment.

I had issues with Boots many times, and zero problems when I went to David Clulow for a second opinion.

With Boots I've found that they just want to get the prescription done as quickly as possible to see the next person (kind of like a GP). The opticians at David Clulow test multiple times and have a conversation with you about whether you feel comfortable with the prescription. The optician at David Clulow lowered my prescription to a safe degree so that I could still see clearly without feeling nauseated (which I did with Boots' prescription).
