Are all X360 Power bricks the same?

Hi all,

I have a scecond hand Xbob 360 console here for which I need a Power brick.

Now I believe there are different types? How do I know which one I need?

Thanks

no the plug didnt fit sorry i should have said. also think they *might* have had different power outputs which is why i think they made sure they didnt fit without model versions.

No they are not, The first was 220W the second was 175w & the third is different still but I don't know what wattage it is, Either way use the Correct one or BANG.

What 360 do you have & what does it say on the Official sticker thingy ?

1st Gen 203w

2nd Gen 175w

3rd Gen 150w

I think that's right.

Apparently you can use the 1st gen power brick on the falcon and the jasper, but not the jasper/falcon power bricks on the older xenon (as not enough watts obv). I am sure I read that on the toms hardware site, doesn't mean its true though heh.

So basically the Jaspers PSU can only be used on the Jasper. The falcon's can be used on the falcon AND the Jasper, and the Xenon's PSU can be used on all 3?

That is right.

In addition, you can use the 1st Gen 203w PSU with all 360's, 2nd Gen 175w with Falcon or newer 360s and 3rd Gen 150w PSU with the latest Jasper revision only.

The newer PSU ends physically will not fit an older console so you should not be able to damage them.

Yup the PSUs are forwards compatible, the most powerful first gen PSUs work in all, the second gen work in second gen onwards etc etc.

I believe it's done like this because it's okay to use too high a wattage PSU (think of all those 1000watt PC PSUs where only half the wattage is being used) but it's not okay to use too low a wattage.

One other thing ive noticed when I got my second 360 was that the original 1st gen power brick and plug that goes in the back of the 360 were much better quality than that of the 2nd gen ones.

Hmm...I couldnt get my old PSU from my first gen core into my falcon elite though?

There are five types of 360 motherboard and three power supplies:

Xenon
Zephyr
Falcon
Opus
Jasper

Xenon and Zephyr require a 203 watt PSU
Falcon and Opus require a 175 watt PSU minimum
Jasper requires a 150w PSU minimum

However, you can use a PSU with a wattage rated above what is required. For example, Falcon will accept a 175w and 203w PSU but not the 150w. That is, the 150w won't even fit, but the other two will.

The 203w PSU will fit every single console. Basically if the PSU fits it'll work fine. If it doesn't physically fit, don't make it fit and just buy a 203w one to guarantee compatibility.
