are animals cleverer than we think?

are they? you always see things everyday that makes you wonder , but nearly every nature program suggests that they have small brains .do you think that animals are smarter than we think they are.maybe its down to language.
 
I don't think so.

The pup can be quite clever sometime, like when we are having tea and we get him to sit on his blanket, when we're eating he'll try crawling closer up to us but when we suddenly look at him, he'll suddenly stop and pretend he's just laying there.

Cheeky git! They can be really thick but suprisingly clever at the same time.

Even down to watching ants in them little glass containers, all the team work and energy that's involed is quite cool considing most people stand on them or spray them.
 
It's not a question of animals being smarter than we give them credit for it's more a case of humans being dumber than we think.

It's all relative.
 
We live in our cats house. At least it feels that way since he gets me up at God forsaken hours to feed him and let him out. Damn noise he makes is too much to sleep through. I'd say that was clever, or me being stupid!
 
Yes they have small brains but how much is nature and how much is them thinking? In the example of ants, the ant's thenselfs are not individually thinking about what they are doing the hive mind is overseeing their actions. As you go up the scale it's the same with all animals even us, it's just we are a bit more aware of the world around us.

It's things like the hive mind and the ever present guiding hand of nature that makes me believe in a universal intelligence.

i think fish have a better memory than 4 seconds, or must be instinct to go to the top of the water once the lid has been open for feeding
