ADSL Line Capability Calculator
An estimate of what your line is capable of is 5640kbps (kilo bits per second).

This figure is based largely on your current Signal to Noise ratio, and current line speed. The results you may obtain in practice are likely to vary, and thus this figure should only be used to estimate your lines capability.

If you found this calculator useful, feel free to make a small or if you have won the lottery a large donation.

-------------

we are paying for aols gold package, 2mbit, however we are "locked" onto 1mbit. we rang aol who told us our line from the exchange is only capable of 1mbit, however neighbours have 2mbit on different isp's.

details :

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1152 kbps 288 kbps
Line Attenuation 55.0 db 29.5 db
Noise Margin 24.8 db 23.0 db

They didnt offer to reduce our bill either, just politely hung up.

I would swap, but i like the lack of traffic shaping and unlimited downloads. just a bit annoying its so slow and we are paying for double speeds.

The speed test has completed on test server test.speedtester.bt.com for user *********** and you have downloaded a 1.7Mb file at a speed of

449 kilo bits per second (Kbps), your service bandwidth will have been quoted to you in kilo bits per second.

Your IP address is *************, your browser is reported as being Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and is running on Windows XP.

BT would regard the speed ranges shown below as normal service:

For 250kbps End Users speeds between 50 - 250kbps.
For 500kbps End Users speeds between 100 - 500kbps.
For 1000kbps End Users speeds between 200 - 1000kbps.
For 2000kbps End Users speeds between 400 - 2000kbps.

thats wierd considering im on a "1mbit" service yet bt report im on more like a "512kbit" service.....

Hi

You are on a normal IP Stream 1Mb service and with the line results you have your line would probably not support 2Mb, however you should ask AOL if they can upgrade you to the BT Dsl Max this should give you faster speeds than 1Mb but not 100% certain.

The fact your neighbour can get 2 Mb does not matter as they will have a different bit of cable running to the house also will have different internal wiring.
